5 ways to upgrade your brain

Green tea figures prominently in an Fast Company article about 5 ways to upgrade your brain before lunch. In fact, green tea is the first suggestion by Max Lugavere, a filmaker, media personality and brain health advocate.

The L-theanine in green tea is lauded by Lugavere for boosting working memory, reducing mental and physical stress without sedation, improving cognition and (working with caffeine) improving mood and cognitive performance.

Lugavere notes that while people go to the gym to improve their physical health, there are important reasons to also work on mental health, too.

“In an age where attention is the new limited resource, optimizing one’s brain may be as important as ever.”

Coffee is also on Lugavere’s list, and with coffee he suggests grass-fed butter and coconut oil. Fat is good for the brain, he notes, and writes that the medium chain triglycerides in coconut oil provide the brain with ketones, a more efficient fuel than glucose.

Taking the stairs is a fourth way to upgrade your brain before lunch, according to Lugavere. It’s aerobic exercise and good for brain health, says Lugavere.

Finally, Lugaver urges his readers to trust their co-workers. He cites a study published in the journal, Neurology that suggests cynics are three times more likely to develop dementia than more easygoing people.

Max Lugavere’s recent web series, Acting Disruptive, dubbed “two parts big ideas, one part late night talk show,” received 26 million views.
