A healthy brain helps us perform at our best throughout our life. When functional medicine expert Bruce Wylde appeared on The List, a daily national TV show which focuses on life hacks, he shared four ways to care for your brain. We’re thrilled that one was getting more restful sleep with Suntheanine.

Wylde’s brain tips:

  1. Feed your brain the good stuff. According to Wylde, “We over-consume oxidized foods, preservatives and the number one silent killer of all, sugar.” Wylde suggests supporting your brain health with omega-3 fatty acids found in fish, flaxseeds and chia. Wylde is also a fan of beets because their nitric oxide helps boost blood flow to the brain.
  2. Check your omega-3 levels. Wylde suggests checking with your doctor about using an at-home test to check omega-3 blood levels. Omega-3 index tests are available online and in many pharmacies.
  3. Exercise your mind. Activities such as sudoku, crossword puzzles and even studying a new language may help keep your brain sharp. “The act of learning a new language is going to increase brain activity,” said Wylde. Consider apps such as Duolingo, Memrise and Babbel.
  4. Get enough quality sleep. “Brain detoxification has to happen in order for you to keep the healthiest and most active brain,” said Wylde. Using a mask, blackout blinds and a white-noise machine can help you get better sleep. Over-the-counter Suntheanine may also help. “Suntheanine will help to increase focus, attention, alertness and concentration, but also studies show, will help to get that deeper sleep so that you’re actually brain detoxing,” explained Wylde.

Suntheanine is a patented form of L-theanine. This amino acid, found almost exclusively in teas, has been known for generations to promote relaxation. Research shows it stimulates alpha wave activity in the brain. This is associated with a more relaxed mental state. Suntheanine is not an extract of green tea but rather is produced via a patented process that mimics the natural process in green tea leaves, resulting in a 100% pure L-isomer-theanine.
